Foundations with SPF

Foundations with SPF…. I think we can all agree that sunscreen is a non-negotiable but with the genius addition of SPF infused make-up there are a lot of questions about how protected you actually are if you rely on SPF in foundation alone.

Nobody loves a simple routine with a multi-tasker more than I do.  But can this apply to sun protection?

Obviously common sense prevails.  If you are indoors or it’s pouring down with rain the SPF debate is readily solved.  And equally if it’s mild with weak sunshine then a foundation SPF is just about perfect.

But as we get into Summer then without doubt we need. more.  Even if your foundation is boosted with a wide range SPF 30+ then you would need at least 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of foundation to give the correct sun protection.

That’s…a lot of foundation!!

Keep in mind that the SPF level in foundation isn’t quite as strong as it might sound. SPF 30 mixed into foundation isn’t going to be as effective as a pure SPF 30 sunscreen, so you’d really need to slather it on thick in order to get the UV protection promised by the SPF rating on the bottle.

My absolute favourite face protection is the Heliocare SPF50 Mineral Tolerance Fluid.  It doesn’t clog pores.  It won’t leave you looking ghostly.  It isn’t greasy.  It quickly disappears completely into the skin and works it’s magic.  Perfect on it’s own or under makeup – either spf infused or not!

More about Heliocare here and it works perfectly over the Face Matters Face Food Serum.
